Celebrate Queensland Day on Fish Lane: A Love Letter to Local Flavour

Queensland Day is just around the corner, landing on June 6, and there’s no better place to celebrate the Sunshine State than right here on Fish Lane. From locally sourced produce and proudly Queensland-made pours to some of the state’s most-loved dining destinations, Fish Lane is serving up Queensland pride in every form, whether you’re chasing a quick scoop, a long lunch, or an indulgent night out.

And it’s not just the food and drink bringing the local love. Fish Lane is also home to works from 12 Queensland-based artists, with creativity woven throughout the precinct in the form of murals, sculpture, topiary, metalwork, installations and the beloved Tiny Doors hidden throughout the laneway. It’s one of Brisbane’s most vibrant open-air galleries, a place where some of the state’s best creative minds get to experiment, play and leave their mark on the city.

And the rest of Queensland seems to agree.

With voting for the Best of Queensland Experiences, Fish Lane favourites are already making serious waves on the leaderboard. Julius Pizzeria is currently in the running for Best Pizza Spot, and Gelato Messina’s South Brisbane store for the Best Ice Cream category. Not bad for a little laneway packed with big flavour.

But beyond the awards and accolades, Fish Lane has always been about championing Queensland producers, growers, distillers, and makers. Across the precinct, venues continue to build menus around locally sourced ingredients and suppliers, creating dining experiences that celebrate the incredible quality coming out of our own backyard.

At Marlowe, Queensland provenance takes centre stage with the exclusive Butcher’s Cut featuring Sir Harry Chauvel Wagyu: a Marble Score 7+ purebred Wagyu from Elbow Creek in the Southern Downs. Grain-fed with the addition of citrus fruit to enhance nutrient quality and animal health, it’s a premium Queensland product with serious pedigree, and Marlowe is currently the only restaurant in Queensland serving it.

Over at Saccharomyces Beer Cafe, they’ve always been fierce advocates for local independent craft breweries in our great state, like Future Magic Brewing Co from East Brissie, Sea Legs Brewing Co from Kangaroo Point, Aether Brewing up in Northgate, and many more as part of their 17 rotating taps.

At Southside, Queensland flavours flow just as freely behind the bar. The Blue Monsoon delivers a frosty, citrus-forward sip featuring house-made blueberry syrup, vodka, and vermouth, perfect for those warm Brisbane evenings that Queensland does best.

Meanwhile, Midtown Bar is leaning into local comfort and nostalgia this June with the arrival of their jaffles, proving Queensland pride doesn’t always need to be fancy. Sometimes it’s crispy, cheesy, and best enjoyed with a drink in hand.

That’s the beauty of Fish Lane on Queensland Day. Whether you’re celebrating with after-work cocktails, date-night dinners, family feasts, sweet treats, or casual bites with friends, there’s a Queensland-inspired experience waiting around every corner, and at every price point.

From award-worthy pizza and iconic gelato to premium local beef, public art and homegrown hospitality, Fish Lane continues to showcase the very best of what Queensland has to offer: incredible produce, passionate venues, talented artists and a community that backs local.
