Fish Lane Becomes a Living Canvas in Craig & Karl’s City-Wide Takeover

Fish Lane Arts Precinct has been transformed into a living canvas as part of the Craig & Karl’s city-wide takeover, and it is a sight worth slowing down for.

The internationally acclaimed art and design duo, Craig Redman and Karl Maier, are known worldwide for their bold, playful aesthetic that blends humour, striking patterns and vibrancy. Having met in Brisbane almost three decades ago before building global careers in New York and London, the pair have returned to their hometown to transform the city with their signature pop-art sensibility and vivid colour. In Fish Lane, their signature style bursts to life across our train pillars, Town Square Vitrines reimagined in rich hues & vibrant tones, and the Brisbane City Council Outdoor Gallery displays, reinventing the laneway into an open-air celebration of creativity.

What makes this takeover even more special is the way it brings people together. Locals and art enthusiasts are discovering a new side to Fish Lane, taking photographs mid-way through their stroll, or gathering in front of the installations to point out their intricate details. Visitors can also join walking tours linking Fish Lane to other key sites across the Craig & Karl Public Art Trail, offering a closer look at the artworks and sharing the stories behind nearly three decades of collaboration between Craig Redman and Karl Maier. More details about the walking tours can be found here

Fish Lane’s involvement in this city-wide celebration places it firmly on the map as an artistic precinct that thrives on community and creativity. Whether you are strolling alone, gathering with friends or joining a walking tour, the Craig & Karl takeover makes Fish Lane a vibrant destination where art spills beyond gallery walls and into the rhythm of everyday life.
