October down Fish Lane: Art, Lobster, Halloween & More
After dark, Fish Lane comes alive.
This October, the lane is getting a little bit of everything: after-dark art, birthday celebrations, lobster feasts, negronis, Halloween theatre, Day of the Dead festivities and plenty of reasons to make a night, or several, of it all.
Here’s what’s on.

Social Sculptures | Friday 3 October
From 5pm on Friday 3 October, Brisbane Festival and Griffith University’s Queensland College of Art are transforming Fish Lane into an unexpected art crawl, bringing more than a dozen sculptures, performances and spatial works into the heart of South Brisbane.
It’s completely free, so take your time to wander the lane, stop, stare, discuss and discover. With works popping up throughout the precinct, Social Sculpture invites you to experience Fish Lane a little differently, and see what happens when contemporary art meets the laneway after dark. Check out all the details here.

Marlowe Turns One | Sunday 4 October
They say time flies when you’re having fun, right? And Marlowe knows exactly how to have a fun night out. It’s only right that they throw a big bash for their one-year anniversary!
On Sunday 4 October, Marlowe is celebrating with a proper birthday lunch, complete with a special spread, birthday cake, a DJ on the patio and plenty of reasons to return to the South Brisbane favourite. Book your spot here while they last!

House of Lobster Takes Over Midtown
Lobster for dinner… we’re not surprised to hear zero objections.
Throughout October, House of Lobster is taking over Midtown Bar & Dining with a four-course menu dedicated to one of our favourite things from the sea.
The four-course menu is $125 per person, with à la carte options also available Wednesday–Saturday at 6:30pm throughout October. With both lobster quantities and Midtown’s intimate dining room limited, you can book ahead here.

Day of the Dead | Friday 30 & Saturday 31 October
We’re excited to be announcing that Day of the Dead celebrations are coming to Fish Lane on Friday 30 and Saturday 31 October!
Friday is going all out with a Day of the Dead procession, mariachi band, mezcal tastings and dancing, while Saturday will see traditional food, music and markets with a beautiful ofrenda installation.
Come for the music. Stay for the food. Get amongst the celebrations. And keep an eye on our socials here for more details as we get closer to the big weekend.

Negroni Month, A Little Different
If you’re wondering where the Negroni Trail went, we hear you. Hotel Terminus has taken things up a level… actually, three levels.
Their Negroni Month experience takes you through their Public Bar, Vixen Room and Fox Rooftop, with a different Negroni on each level, built to suit the space it’s poured in.
Pick up a passport from any bartender, work your way through all three and collect your stamps as you go. Complete the trail, and you’ll go into the draw for a Negroni Month prize pack and a $150 Hotel Terminus voucher.
And if one Negroni trail isn’t enough, the good news is that you can find a Negroni at pretty much all of the Fish Lane venues you know and love anyway! That means Bar Brutus, Midtown, La Lune, Maker, Maeve, and more.
So consider this your excuse to make a little more room in your October calendar, and check out Hotel Terminus’ Negroni trail here.

Something to Sink Your Teeth Into This Halloween
Thinking of something a little different to celebrate Halloween this year? Shake & Stir Theatre Co. is bringing Dracula to Brisbane, with two performances on Friday 31 October: an early 6pm show and a decidedly more spooky 10:30pm session.
And because one can never have too much fun on Halloween, Shake & Stir is teaming up with Midtown Bar & Dining for a special cocktail to mark the occasion. Get your tickets here.

MELT comes to Fish Lane
From 21 October, MELT Festival is bringing queer arts and culture to Fish Lane with PINK SWANS, a striking projection lighting up the precinct after dark.
Inspired by the fact that up to 30% of male black swans have been observed in same-sex partnerships, the work uses infrared technology to explore nature through a distinctly queer lens. You can check out more about the installation here.
See You Down Fish Lane
Art, food, drinks, late nights… October has plenty going on down Fish Lane. Come see what’s happening.
