Light up at GOMA

Looking to brighten your evening in South Brisbane during these cold winter months? Then prepare to be enlightened at GOMA with their largest light installation yet!

Created by the artistic genius James Turrell and gracing the entirety of GOMA every night from dusk until midnight, this beautiful light show is a celebration of the modern museum’s potential to illuminate minds and ignite creative ideas in the minds of artists in and around Brisbane.

One of the best artists in Skyspace design, Turrell is known for other spell-bounding works such as the National Gallery of Australia’s ‘Within Without’ (2010) amongst other international light shows.

Playing with the building’s ‘white box’ façade and paying homage to its industrial architecture by highlighting the southern and eastern sides of the museum, this installation is an immersive experience of moving art.  Watch in wonder as the walls evolve into a dramatic kaleidoscope of colours and switch between soft-diffused and intensified glowing light.

Also on site and open every night is GOMA’s Café Bistro, where guests can bask in the glow of the installation while enjoying a yummy bite or two with craft ales from Burleigh Brewing Co.

Those after an even more enriching night can cross the road into Fish Lane to enjoy the generous shared dining options at Hello Please. Fire up the taste buds with their spicy Red Dragon Tofu, made Szechuan-style with pickled cucumber, fried shallots, and aromats, or keep things light with their delicate, yet filling BBQ Lamb Pancakes.

Commissioned by the Paul, Sue, and Kate Taylor Foundation and the 2017 QAGOMA Foundation Appeal, this is one wonderwall you’ll definitely want to see.

Don’t get left in the dark South Brisbane – come visit GOMA’s version of a Wonderwall tonight.
